Ilene Morrow ’49 Extends Annual Gifts Beyond Her Lifetime

In 1993, Rollins alumna Ilene Morrow ’49 established the Ilene Morrow Fund for Achievement in Botany through a stock gift to the College valued at more than $10,500. Ilene felt that a course she took in botany while at Rollins put her in touch with what would be her life’s work. She wanted to help other students find their passion, just as that class had ignited hers.

For several years after that initial gift, Ilene added to the fund annually. When she died in 2000, she remembered Rollins in her will. She chose to support bright students with distributions from her trust, her insurance policy, and from her pension plan proceeds. Ilene’s commitment to the enhancement of Rollins’ science program created a legacy of her loyalty to the College.

Today that endowment has a market value of nearly $610,000 and will provide $31,000 in income this year to fund scholarships for deserving science students. Ilene’s dream of helping others realize their goals has come true.
